Casa das Caldeiras aims to develop a multimedia show, fully integrated with the musical performance, offering a deeper insight into the history of the University, Fado, and the city of Coimbra.

The presentation of this show is also planned to include translated song lyrics in several languages, namely English, French, Spanish, and Mandarin.

By combining the musical performance with audiovisual elements, the connection between the performer and the audience becomes closer, enhancing the dissemination of both the tangible and intangible heritage of the University of Coimbra, its history, and our unique and traditional musical genre...

Fado, Song and Guitar of Coimbra

The performance hall Casa das Caldeiras is dedicated, among other purposes, to contributing to a better understanding and promotion of one of the most authentic and characteristic musical genres of our region and our Portugal – the Song of Coimbra. With its own unique sound, the Portuguese guitar, paired with vocals in its most traditional essence, elevates this musical genre as the pinnacle of our culture, awakening deep sensations and emotions.

"The guitar I play today speaks of life... Having people inside the guitar" – Carlos Paredes

Casa das Caldeiras features the collaboration of several individuals who, over the years, have contributed to and shaped the artistic and musical representation of the Song of Coimbra, staying true to its roots.

The show offers a journey through time, telling the story of our song and our University, highlighting the close relationship between students and performers. Its repertoire includes both traditional and contemporary pieces.

The Song of Coimbra is recognized by various city institutions as something absolutely essential to both Coimbra and the surrounding region, due to its socio-cultural identity and as a living form of distinguishing Coimbra from other similar cities.
